CORNEA

The clear front surface of the eye is called Cornea and it's function is to allow light to enter the eye. It consists of 5 layers. The diseases affecting the cornea could involve any of these layers. The most common conditions that could affect your vision are infections, dystrophies, ectasias or due to trauma. Infections related to contact lenses, trauma are pretty common. Your symptoms could be foreign body sensation, photophobia, blurred or cloudy vision, pain and watering. Other common conditions include Keratoconus which is a cone shaped deformity with a resultant thinning of the central cornea. Pseudophakic bullous keratopathy which occurs due to an unhealthy endothelium and will cause blurred vision with glare, halos around light. Your doctor will examine your eyes with a slit lamp and tell you about the required treatment.
